Looking for adventure.

The girls and I decided to be ultra adventurous and go to the cabin for the weekend. So of course, we called up our best girl friends and invited them to come along. So Friday night Kate, Iz, Cam, Tash, Jhanna, and I headed out. Luckily, the drive to the cabin was pretty uneventful. Which is just the way I like it. Once we arrived at the cabin I was able to get the water turned on with out much incidence. (It's my first time frequenting the cabin with out any men folk to do the dirty work.) The next morning we decided to take a leisurely stroll like we usually do when at the cabin. We had walked a little ways up the road when a car stops and informs us about a bear just up the road in the direction we are headed. So we promptly decided we had walked far enough for the day. And enjoyed a rather brisk walk back to the cabin. Unfortunately, Petrovitch had a much more adventurous spirit than the rest of us and wanted to get a closer look at said bear. Once we reached the cabin we all piled into Kate's Yukon to go and find the adventurous dog and perhaps sneak a peek of the bear from the safety of our vehicle. Well we did eventually find Petrovitch gallivanting up the road chasing after cars but no bear. After our morning escapade we decided we were in the mood to spend the day away from the cabin and bear. We rented a paddle boat so we could float the river. Kate and I thought we were being advantageous considering the children outnumbered us 2 to 1 but the lady reassured the two of us that we would have no problems. The river was absolutely beautiful. However, our "float" trip turned out to be much more paddling than floating. The girls really did enjoy it. They were able to get out of the boat a few times and play in the water. We saw a whole bunch of fish. The daddies will be so jealous. The only down side is poor Cam was ultra tired. She demanded to be held the whole time otherwise would scream at the top of her lungs, making the other floaters give us that "you're in way over head ladies" look. Kate was definitely supermom paddling while holding her sleep deprived child in the other arm. The other children were really good at screaming for snacks and juice just as the river bends, when we should be anxiously engaged in rowing. Therefore we encountered the bank on several occasions. However, at long last we made it back to the dock. As we approached the dock Kate suggested that one of us get out and help us dock the boat. Well, since Kate was holding the baby the obvious choice was me. So I threw down my paddle and swung my leg over the edge to get out of the boat. The water was quite a bit deeper than any of us had anticipated. I could not even touch the bottom. So here I am half hanging from the boat by one leg. Trying to decide if I should try and climb back in the boat or just get into the water so we can land at the dock. Now depending on who tells the story there are two different endings to our little float trip. I am sure that Kate somehow, while holding Cam and trying to paddle, managed to push me into the river. I did suggest that she is super mom. Kate however, seems to think that I fell. One way or another I ended up getting completely dunked under the water in front of a bunch of people at the dock. Only slightly embarrassing. I also lost my shoe and had to hobble back to the car. Natasha and Jhanna told me they were both preparing to jump in and save me. Aren't I truly blessed to have such awesome girls. Luckily, nothing was bruised but my ego. We did have a lot of fun and are already planning to go again next year. Except this time I plan to stay in the boat.
We reported back to the cabin for lunch, naps, and a shower for those us that smelled like river water. That evening we took the girls for milkshakes and watched movies. Grandpa has a princess swan lake movie at the cabin we picked for the girls to watch. When Kate went upstairs to put the movie in for the girls Natasha complained "Not that crappy swan princess movie again." I think it's safe to say its time for grandpa to rotate the movies at the cabin. All in all we had a fantastic time free of any run-ins with the bear.
