Doctor Visit
Jhanna had to go the doctor the other day for her check up and immunizations. I made the appointment a couple of weeks ago. But I didn't tell the girls, I just told them we had an errand to run. Jhanna handles the doctor pretty well but Natasha freaks out if as much as drive by the office. So of course as soon as we pull into the parking lot Natasha has to know who has to see the doctor. She was relieved to find out it was Jhanna and not her. The girls go to look at the fish tank in the waiting room while I sign us in. Unfortunately, there was a dead fish in the tank. The nurse called Jhanna's name just as someone was coming to take care of the dead fish. Natasha decides she needs to protect Jhanna. She even tells Jhanna not to worry she won't let anyone hurt her. As the lady walks over by the girls to get the fish I hear Natasha shouting. "Get away from my sister. Don't hurt her, you get away." This scares Jhanna and she starts crying hysterically. (I often wonder why we have to make a scene everywhere we go.) I finally get the girls back into the exam room. I even got Jhanna calmed down so the nurse could weigh and measure her. The doctor came in and did her thing and we made it through all right. See the girls have figured out that the doctor is nice, its the nurses you have to worry about. We decided to get both of the girls a flu shot. So the doctor leaves and we begin the wait for the nurse to give the shots. The girls have already figured out what it means if we wait in the room after the doctor has left. But Natasha is OK. After all, its Jhanna's appointment. She doesn't know about the flu shot. Finally, two nurses come in to the room. They know my family. Two nurses are a necessity to administer the girls shots. Though, I think that next time they might bring three. The nurse announces that they will be doing Natasha's shot first. She begins screaming. Top of her lungs. I have to grab her and carry her to the table. You have to know, she is not going to go quietly. Of course she locks her legs, stiffens her body, I'm trying to get her. She is kicking, screaming, and swinging her arms. She knocks over the bench in the room. I get her wrangled on to the table. The nurse approaches. That poor nurse then gets kicked in the stomach with Natasha's big snow boots. Eventually, two of us get her somewhat pinned down for the shot. By the way, she has been screaming and I mean screaming the whole time. The nurse finally gives her the shot. Immediately, Natasha sits up and announces " I was so brave." She didn't even cry when they poked her. She hops off the table all proud at how brave she is. Now, its Jhanna's turn. I turn to get her. The poor girl has a look of pure terror on her face. But she lets me pick her up and lay her on the table. She just lets me hold her while she gets the shot. The girl didn't even flinch. Afterwards, she announces to her sister that she is brave too. As we are walking to the car Natasha asks to call her dad so she can tell him about how brave she is. Oh, the poor nurse.
